چکیده

A key limitation of all existing algorithms for shape and motion from image sequences under orthographic, weak perspective and para-perspective projection is that they require the calibration parameters of the camera. We present in this paper a new approach that allows the shape and motion to be computed from image sequences without having to know the calibration parameters. This approach is derived with the aane camera model, introduced by Mundy and Zisserman (1992), which is a more general class of projections including orthographic, weak perspective and para-perspective projection models. The concept of self-calibration, introduced by Maybank and Faugeras (1992) for the perspective camera and by Hartley (1994) for the rotating camera, is then applied for the aane camera. This paper introduces the 3 intrinsic parameters that the aane camera can have at most. The intrinsic parameters of the aane camera are closely related to the usual intrinsic parameters of the pin-hole perspective camera, but are diierent in the general case. Based on the invariance of the intrinsic parameters, methods of self-calibration of the aane camera are proposed. It is shown that with at least four views, an aane camera may be self-calibrated up to a scaling factor, leading to Euclidean (similarity) shape reconstruction up to a global scaling factor. Another consequence of the introduction of intrinsic and extrinsic parameters of the aane camera is that all existing algorithms using calibrated aane cameras can be assembled into the same framework and some of them can be easily extented to a batch solution. Experimental results are presented and compared with other methods using calibrated aane cameras.

Stereo Calibration from Rigid Motions

This paper describes a method to upgrade projective reconstruction to a ne and to metric reconstructions using rigid general or planar motions of a stereo rig. We make clear the algebraic relationships between projective reconstruction, the plane at in nity (a ne reconstruction), camera calibration, and metric reconstruction when a 3-D scene is observed with a moving stereo rig. Based on an in-...

Self-Calibration from Image Triplets

We describe a method for determining a ne and metric calibration of a camera with unchanging internal parameters undergoing planar motion. It is shown that a ne calibration is recovered uniquely, and metric calibration up to a two fold ambiguity. The novel aspects of this work are: rst, relating the distinguished objects of 3D Euclidean geometry to xed entities in the image; second, showing tha...

Sequential Updating of Projective and A ne Structure from Motion

A structure from motion algorithm is described which recovers structure and camera position, modulo a projective ambiguity. Camera calibration is not required, and camera parameters such as focal length can be altered freely during motion. The structure is updated sequentially over an image sequence, in contrast to schemes which employ a batch process. A specialisation of the algorithm to recov...

Multiple-Kernel Based Vehicle Tracking Using 3D Deformable Model and Camera Self-Calibration

Tracking of multiple objects is an important application in AI City geared towards solving salient problems related to safety and congestion in an urban environment. Frequent occlusion in traffic surveillance has been a major problem in this research field. In this challenge, we propose a model-based vehicle localization method, which builds a kernel at each patch of the 3D deformable vehicle m...
